Neem cake questions
What is neem cake (neem khali)?

Neem cake, called neem khali in Urdu, is the solid residue left after oil is pressed from neem seed kernels. It is used as a slow-release organic fertilizer and soil conditioner, and growers use it to reduce soil pests such as nematodes, white ants and grubs.

How much neem cake should I apply per acre?

Most suppliers recommend 100 to 200 kg per acre, mixed into the soil during land preparation before sowing. Published recommendations range from about 68 kg per acre for low-value crops up to 400 kg per acre. The calculator lets you pick a conservative, standard or heavy rate, or type your own.

What is the NPK of neem cake?

Typical neem cake carries about 4 to 6 percent nitrogen, 1 percent phosphate and 1 to 3 percent potash. The exact values vary by supplier, so check the label on your bag if it lists them.

How much neem cake can I use in pots?

Keep neem cake at or below 1 percent of the potting soil weight. One supplier guide suggests 50 to 100 g for a 12 inch pot. Too much can slow seed germination or stunt young plants.

Does neem cake control nematodes?

Pot and greenhouse studies in Pakistan and India mixed neem cake into soil at about 1 percent by weight (10 g per kg of soil), and up to 2 percent for gladiolus. A tomato study found the best result when the amended soil was left to decompose for about 20 days before planting. Open field results vary, so use it as one part of a nematode management plan.

How are plants counted from spacing?

In the Trees and banana tab, choose Land area and spacing. Plants = land area divided by (row spacing × plant spacing), with spacing in feet and the result rounded down. The presets are typical orchard spacings, so change them to match your own planting.

When and how should I apply neem cake?

Mix it into the soil before sowing or transplanting. Scatter it evenly and work it into the surface, and avoid placing it directly against roots. Watering or rain after application helps it start working.

Why Use Neem Cake in Pakistan?

Neem Cake is not just a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, it is a powerful natural defense system for your soil. In Pakistan, where soil-borne diseases like nematodes (root knot) and deemak (termites) destroy crops and potted plants, Neem Cake acts as a natural barrier.

Unlike chemical pesticides that kill beneficial earthworms and microbes, Neem Cake actually protects them. It improves soil texture, enhances water holding capacity, and slowly releases essential macronutrients (N-P-K) over several months.

How to Calculate Neem Cake for Your Plants

  • For Potted Plants: Neem Khali is highly potent. You only need about 20 to 30 grams (1-2 tablespoons) for a standard 12-inch pot. Overusing it in pots will not harm the plant severely, but it is a waste of a premium resource.

  • For Lawns (Top Dressing): Using 3.5 kg to 4 kg per Marla helps keep turf pests away and provides a steady supply of nitrogen for deep green grass.

  • For Agricultural Fields: Farmers fighting root rot or termites should apply 200 kg to 300 kg per Acre during soil preparation.
