What Is a Coco Peat Brick? (کوکو پیٹ برک کیا ہے؟)
A coco peat brick is coconut coir pith, the soft, spongy material left after the long coconut fibres (ناریل کے ریشے) are removed, pressed into a hard dry block so it is easy to store and carry. Our 500 g brick is washed, buffered and compressed, imported and packed in Pakistan. Add water and it softens and swells into a fluffy, water-holding medium that you can use as a base for potting mix, seed starting or hanging baskets.

Why Buy a Small Brick?
Not everyone needs a 10 kg block. If you grow a few plants on a balcony, start seeds each season, or just want to try cocopeat before switching your whole mix, one 500 g brick is the right amount. You expand only what you need, and the rest stays dry and clean, with no mould and no dust. It also makes a handy gift for a friend who has started gardening.
What Does It Do for Your Plants?
- Holds water: expanded coir holds roughly six to eight times its own weight, so small pots, which dry out fastest, stay evenly moist for longer.
- Keeps air in the mix: the fibrous pith is highly porous, so roots can breathe.
- Light (ہلکا): easy to carry up to a balcony or terrace.
- Suits most plants: its pH is usually close to neutral to slightly acidic, so it needs little or no lime.
- Ready to use: it is washed and buffered, so there is no need to wash out salts first.
- Renewable: it is a by-product of the coconut industry and an alternative to peat moss.
How Much Does One 500 g Brick Make?
One brick expands to roughly 5–7 litres, depending on how much water you add. As a rough guide:
| Use | What one brick gives you |
|---|---|
| Coir brick for plants as the whole medium (seed trays, cuttings) | A few seed trays |
| Full medium for small pots (about 15 cm) | About 3–4 pots |
| 40% of a potting mix | About 7–10 small pots |
| Hanging baskets | 2–3 baskets |
These are typical figures. The exact yield depends on the brick and the water you add, so expand one brick first and measure it.
How Do You Use a Coco Peat Brick?
- Put the brick in a clean bucket or tub. It swells a lot, so use a container that holds at least 8 litres.
- Pour in about 2–2.5 litres of clean water gradually and let it soak.
- Wait until the brick has softened, typically 15–30 minutes, then break it up with your hands or a fork.
- Fluff the pith and squeeze out any extra water, until it feels like a wrung-out sponge.
- Mix it with perlite, pumice, compost or garden soil. For potting mix, 30–50% cocopeat is a good start; for seeds, 50–100% fine cocopeat or 1:1 with vermiculite.
- Fill your pots or seed trays, plant, and water gently.
- Feed regularly with dilute fertiliser or compost (کھاد), because coir holds very few nutrients of its own.
- Expand only what you need and keep the rest of the brick dry, because damp cocopeat left sealed can grow mould.
Is It Washed and Buffered?
Yes. Raw coir can carry natural salts from the coconut. Our bricks are washed to remove most of them and buffered, so the coir does not hold back calcium and magnesium from your plants, and the pith is ready to use once soaked. For very sensitive seedlings, a single rinse after expanding is still a cheap extra precaution.
Which Cocopeat Format Do You Need?
| Format | Size | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Coco peat brick (this product) | 500 g | A few pots, seeds, balcony gardens, trying cocopeat |
| Cocopeat block | 1 kg, 5 kg, 10 kg | Many pots, grow bags, nurseries, large beds |
| Loose cocopeat | Several pack sizes | Quick top-ups, no soaking needed |
Pair cocopeat with perlite or pumice for drainage, or with vermiculite for more water and nutrient holding.
