What Is Sulphur Bentonite? (سلفر بینٹونائٹ کیا ہے؟)
Meaning of Sulphur Bentonite in Urdu is “سلفر بینٹونائٹ” بینٹونائٹ چکنی مٹی پر مبنی عنصری سلفر جو کھاری مٹی کا pH آہستہ آہستہ کم کرنے میں مدد دیتا ہے. Yellowing new leaves, stunted growth and feeds that never seem to work often start below ground, in soil whose pH has climbed too high for roots to feed properly.
It is elemental sulphur carried on bentonite clay and mixed into garden soil or potting mix rather than sprayed on leaves. It works slowly and quietly, like a gradual reset for your مٹی (soil), not an overnight fix. It is a soil amendment: not a pest spray, not a fungicide and not a complete NPK fertilizer.

| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is it? | Elemental sulphur (سلفر) carried on bentonite clay. |
| What does it do? | Soil microbes slowly convert the sulphur into sulphate and acid, which can bring a high pH down and also feed plants with sulphur. |
| Product type | A slow-release soil acidifier for alkaline soil. |
| Who is it for? | Gardeners whose soil tests above what their plants need, especially with yellow leaves despite regular feeding. |
| How fast is it? | Gradual: weeks to months, usually quicker in warm, moist soil. |
| How much? | Starting points: about 1–2 g per medium pot, about 5–10 g per m² in beds. Retest before adding more. |
| What is it not for? | Quick fixes, pest or disease control, very limey soils, salty (kallar) soils, or soil that is already neutral or acidic. |

Why Does Your Garden Need It? (آپ کی مٹی کو اس کی ضرورت کیوں ہے؟)
In dry, hot parts of Pakistan little rain washes carbonates and salts out of the soil, and soil pH in dry climates is often neutral or alkaline (USDA NRCS – Soil pH). Irrigating with hard, bicarbonate-rich tube-well water can push alkalinity higher season after season. If that sounds like your garden, these problems will feel familiar:
- Pale new leaves with green veins while the soil is well fed: at high pH, iron, zinc, copper and manganese become harder for roots to reach.
- Wasted fertilizer money: the nutrients are in the soil, but plants cannot take them up properly.
- Beds that demand more feed every season and still look tired.
- Fear of harming plants: that is why the starting amounts and the test-first routine below keep doses small.

What Does It Do for Your Plants? (پودوں کو کیا فائدہ؟)
- Can lower soil pH gradually as soil microbes convert the sulphur, rather than shocking plants with a sudden change.
- May make iron, zinc and manganese easier for جڑیں (roots) to reach, which can help with yellowing caused by high pH.
- Supplies sulphur, a nutrient plants use to build proteins and chlorophyll.
- Can help your regular feeds work better when high pH had been locking nutrients up.
- Suits سبزیاں (vegetables), پھلدار درخت (fruit trees), لان (lawn), flowers and pots.
Results depend on your soil, your plants and your watering.
Where Should You Use It and How Much? (کہاں اور کتنی مقدار؟)
| Use | Starting amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pots and planters (گملے) | About 1–2 g per medium pot | Blend evenly into your potting soil mix before planting; keep it away from seeds and fine roots. |
| Vegetable and flower beds | About 5–10 g per m² | Work into the top 10 cm before sowing or planting, then water well. |
| Lawn (لان) | Start near 5 g per m² | Scatter evenly, rake in lightly and water in; never leave heaps. |
| Fruit trees (پھلدار درخت) | About 5–10 g per m² under the canopy | Mix into the top few centimetres and keep it off the trunk. |
| Large beds and farm plots | Based on a soil test | Correcting a whole plot can need far more than home-garden doses, so split it across seasons and test after each round. For farm quantities, message us on WhatsApp. |
These are starting points, not guarantees. Retest your soil pH after roughly 6–8 weeks before adding more.

| Option | Main job | Effect on soil pH | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| This product | Brings a high pH down and adds sulphur | Gradual reduction | Your soil tests alkaline and plants show lock-up |
| Sphagnum peat moss | Acidic, moisture-holding growing medium | Mild, mostly useful in pots | You are building a container mix |
| Rice husk ash | Potassium and silica source | Mildly alkaline, so it can push pH up | Your soil is not already alkaline; do not pair it with this product |
| Organic compost | Food, structure and microbial life | Not a pH tool | You want to feed the soil after correcting pH |
How Does It Work? (یہ کیسے کام کرتا ہے؟)
Elemental sulphur is not acidic by itself. Once it is mixed into moist, warm soil, soil microbes slowly oxidise it, and the sulphuric acid formed reacts with the alkalinity in the soil. Wikipedia’s Soil pH article describes elemental sulphur oxidising slowly in soil to form sulphuric acid and lists it among the ways to reduce the pH of alkaline soil. The bentonite clay carrier is meant to help it spread through the soil as it gets wet.
Most plants grow best between about pH 5.5 and 7.5; tomato and guava, for example, are listed at 5.5–7.0. One honest limit: in very limey (calcareous) soils with more than about 2% calcium carbonate, reducing pH with acids can be costly and ineffective, and correcting the missing nutrients directly is often more efficient. A soil test tells you which case you have.
How Do You Use It? (استعمال کا طریقہ)
- Test first. Check your soil pH with a kit or meter and treat only if it is above what your plants need.
- Protect yourself. Wear gloves, avoid breathing the dust and wash your hands afterwards; keep it away from children, pets and open flame.
- Measure the starting amount from the table above; do not guess or double it.
- Mix it in. Blend into the top 5–10 cm of soil or potting mix; keep it off edible leaves and away from seeds and root tips.
- Water well, because soil microbes need moisture to do the work.
- Wait and retest. Check pH again after roughly 6–8 weeks and repeat a small dose only if needed.
- Skip alkaline add-ons such as wood ash, lime and rice husk ash on the same bed.
- Store the pack sealed in a cool, dry place.
